As of today, it is officially December, which means many of the holiday songs have returned to the charts. As part of a gift-giving initiative, Leon Bridges released a rendition of “Purple Snowflakes” Marvin Gaye’s song earlier this month as a way to spread some holiday cheer. The original recording was initially made exclusively for Amazon Music and is similar to Summer Walker’s rendition of “I Want To Come Home For Christmas.”
Michael Bublé’s appearance on Christmas in the City, a performance of The Christmas Song with him, deserves some bragging rights. Thanks to its prolonged status as a classic, the song has continued to receive considerable attention, and Kiana Lede has also recently released a reimagined version.
Gold-Diggers Sound, Leon Bridges’ third album, was released in July. In anticipation of its release, Bridges took the time to discuss the meaning behind the album’s title. He explained that the title was inspired by the environment he was in when the project was born. This Friday, July 23rd is the release date for my third full-length album, Gold Diggers Sound! he writes excitedly. I worked, lived, and drank at the hotel, studio, and bar of the same name in Los Angeles where I stayed, worked, and drank for two years.
“All About You” was Leon Bridges’ collaborative project with one of R&B’s favorites Lucky Daye from October of last year. The group aimed to pull back the energy of some of the classic ‘90s R&B tunes we grew up listening to, according to a press release. Leon Bridges released his last studio album, Good Thing, in 2018, and he has since released a number of singles, including this year’s “Sweeter” featuring Terrace Martin, as well as his four-track project Texas Sun with Khruangbin.
